The Power of Play: Why Sport Matters in Early Childhood

In the early years, movement is the primary language of learning. Incorporating structured sport into early childhood education isn't just about burning off energy; it’s about laying the neurological and physical foundations for a healthy life. That’s why at Atlantis Group, we run our very own TAG sports program at all centres.

We are thrilled to enhance our physical education curriculum with our newest addition: Martial Arts. This program is designed specifically for young learners, focusing on discipline and "playful purpose" rather than combat.

Martial Arts: More Than Just a Kick

Our Martial Arts sessions focus on developing Physical Literacy Skills that serve as building blocks for all future sports.Through these sessions, children improve:

  • Physical Foundations: Strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance.
  • Dynamic Movement: Agility, speed, and reaction time.
  • Body Mastery: Coordination, perceptual awareness, and motor skills.
  • Emotional Growth: Self-regulation and a significant boost in confidence.

Our Learning Intentions

Every session is guided by specific developmental goals. We aren't just teaching "moves"; we are teaching children how to in habi ttheir bodies with intention.

  1. Foundations & Balance: Building basic martial arts stances to improve stability and body awareness.
  2. Controlled Coordination: Improving motor skills through purposeful movement patterns, gentle strikes, and controlled kicks.
  3. Active Listening: Strengthening the ability to follow directions and self-regulate through structured games.
  4. Mindset & Focus: Supporting a growth mindset and persistence in a playful, engaging environment.

Aligning with the EYLF

Our Martial Arts program is deeply rooted in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) – Belonging, Being & Becoming. We ensure that every punch, kick, and stance aligns with key developmental outcomes:
