Growing Together: Tall Tree Mullaloo and True North Community Garden

At Tall Tree Mullaloo, we believe the best learning happens when children feel connected to the people and places around them. That's why we're so proud to be a sponsor of True North Community Garden and Community Recycling Hub, one of the most inspiring community spaces in our local area.

We were recently honoured to receive a plaque from True North recognising Tall Tree Mullaloo as a sponsor of the community gardens. It now sits proudly in the garden, a lasting reminder of the partnership between our service and the volunteers who have poured so much time, energy and heart into this space.

For our team, the plaque is a symbol of something bigger. It represents our belief that supporting local initiatives is part of caring for the families we serve, and that the wellbeing of our children is tied to the wellbeing of the community they grow up in.

The True North gardens have become a wonderful and thriving space for our whole community. Neighbours meet over garden beds, volunteers share their knowledge and skills, and families stop by to see what's growing each season.

Alongside the gardens, the Community Recycling Hub shows how small, everyday actions can add up to real change. Together, they create a place where people of all ages can connect, learn and give back.

Where children and early learning take root

Children are natural explorers. Give them soil, seeds and a watering can, and they'll discover more than any worksheet could teach. A garden invites them to ask questions, notice changes, be patient and take pride in caring for something living.

This kind of hands-on, play-based learning sits at the heart of how we work at Tall Tree. It aligns closely with My Time, Our Place, the national framework for school age care, which encourages children to develop a sense of belonging, become confident and involved learners, and connect with and contribute to their world.

When children understand where their food comes from, help plant a seedling or learn why we sort our recycling, they build skills and values that stay with them for life: curiosity, responsibility, teamwork and respect for nature.

Sustainability, every day

Sustainability isn't a one-off lesson at Tall Tree. It's woven into our daily routines, from reducing waste and recycling to talking with children about how we can look after our environment.

Our connection with True North brings those conversations to life. It gives children a real-world example of a community working together to grow food, reduce landfill and care for the land, and it shows them that they can be part of that change too.

Our commitment to Mullaloo

Mullaloo is more than where we operate. It's home to the families we care for, and we're committed to playing an active, positive role in the community. Supporting True North is one way we do that, and we look forward to finding new ways to work together, learn together and grow together in the years ahead.

A heartfelt thank you to the True North volunteers for the plaque, for your warm welcome and for creating such a special place for our community.

If you haven't visited the True North Community Garden and Community Recycling Hub yet, we warmly encourage you to stop by. You might just find our plaque among the garden beds, and you'll certainly find a community that's growing something wonderful.
