Yesterday, as the world marked the UN's International Day of Play, our Chief Executive Officer, Todd Dawson, was honoured to be invited to Perth Children's Hospital to celebrate alongside some of the most respected voices in children's wellbeing and early childhood across Western Australia.
It was a privilege to stand together with the Commissioner for Children and Young People WA and Young People, The Kids Research Institute Australia, the Play Matters Australia Collective, and the Office of Early Childhood Education, organisations united by a shared belief that play is fundamental to every child's right to learn, grow and thrive. To be welcomed into a room with such passionate advocates, for a cause and a day so close to the heart of what we do every single day, was something we don't take for granted.
At The Atlantis Group and Tall Tree Early Learning, play isn't an add-on. It's how children make sense of their world, building confidence, sparking imagination, forming friendships and developing the skills that shape who they become. With 75% of brain development occurring in the first five years of life, the environments and opportunities we create for our youngest learners matter more than ever. We also know that energetic, active play is just as vital. Running, climbing, jumping and moving freely builds the core strength, coordination and balance that set children up for healthy, confident lives. Physical play isn't just good fun, it's one of the most important things a growing body and brain can do. "To be invited to celebrate International Day of Play alongside the Commissioner and these incredible organisations was a genuine honour," said Todd Dawson, Chief Executive Officer of The Atlantis Group.
"Every day, our Educators see firsthand how play transforms learning. To gather with others who champion children's right to play with the same conviction reminds us we're part of something far bigger than any one service. Protecting play means protecting childhood, and that's a responsibility we carry with pride. "This year's theme, 'Protect play, protect childhood,' is a powerful reminder that safe spaces, unstructured time and the encouragement to play freely are not luxuries, they are rights every child deserves. Thank you to everyone who made this day so special. We're proud to stand alongside you in championing play, now and always.
