Environment

We create functional, interactive and responsive environments in which child-led interests come to the fore.

Environments must initiate self-discovery and intrigue.

Our Educators are encouraged to delve well below the surface, to build a sound understanding of the principles of a child's thinking, questions and curiosities.

Safety is always considered, but with room for the adventurous at heart to explore

The environment in which your little one spends their day is vitally important to the way in which they build relationships and their ability to learn. The Learning Environment is considered the third teacher, playing a central role in making learning meaningful for your little one.

Your little one learns through the building and sustaining of relationships, through interaction and engagement with others. The environment in which they spend their time is therefore essential, in creating a space to facilitate and foster.

We create functional, interactive and responsive environments in which child-led interests come to the fore. We may start the day intending to learn about flight, but be guided down a path towards caterpillars, cocoons and bird nests. Never a dull moment, always an opportunity to learn.

Never will the curiosity of a little one be disregarded for planned learning experiences. Early childhood is a time of discovery; and structured lesson plans are no match for genuine interest when it comes to learning. Environments must initiate self-discovery and intrigue.

Our Educators are encouraged to delve well below the surface, to build a sound understanding of the principles of a child's thinking, questions and curiosities. Not just what they think, but how they think it and why. The environment Educators create is therefore a reflection of that understanding.

Inside environments are eclectic and include items of interest, old and new, to create conversation and catalyst for learning. Our heritage-listed premises allows children to appreciate where we have been, whilst our focus on sustainability and re-purposing of items allows us to pave the way forward, for where we feel we need to go.

Outside environments are built with nature and natural play at their centre, with wood and other environmentally-sound materials carefully selected. We want to create environments where your little one is able to run, discover and play like children of days gone by. Safety is always considered, but with room for the adventurous at heart to explore and to build all-important gross motor skills.

Breakout areas, both inside and out, create a safe, quiet space for those who need time away from sensory input. Other areas include a variety of textures and tactile experiences for little ones who seek greater sensory input. We recognise little ones who may need more or less, and will work to create a safe space for them to exist within.

Small groups breakaway to better focus on particular interests and learning opportunities, as well as allowing our Educators to build stronger relationships and keep a mindful eye on social, emotional, physical and intellectual development.

We will always work with you and your little one, to ensure the environment in which they spend their time is both inspiring and nurturing. To be the third teacher and help your little one on their path to a lifelong love of learning and discovery.
